The song was written and produced by both Madonna and Patrick Leonard. The song speaks about a passionate young girl in love with God, who becomes the only male figure in her life. The chorus of the song goes as follows: “When you call my name, it’s like a little prayer. I’m down on my knees, I wanna take you there. In the midnight hour, I can feel your power. Just like a prayer, you know I’ll take you there”. The song was performed by Madonna at Live 8 in London’s Hyde Park on the 2nd July, 2005. The album “Like a Prayer” was dedicated to Madonna’s mother, who died when the singer was only five. It is a pop album and incorporates elements of rock, R&B, gospel, and funk.
